Projection - Kassel

During Bergparkleuchten 2024, Werff Design created the projection mapping Liquido in Kassel.

A large-scale projection on a large building, themed around water and Neptune. Playful, colorful, and fully focused on experience, with a clear emphasis on a child-friendly look.

A large canvas requires precision

The building used for the projection offered many possibilities, but also presented a challenge.

Instead of simply projecting content, the entire building was first digitally recreated. Stone by stone.

This made it possible to:

  • Create depth

  • Cast realistic shadows

  • Let parts of the façade appear to detach

This approach creates an illusion that feels almost tangible.

Playing with architecture

The real impact of projection mapping lies in how you use the surface.

With Liquido, the building was not just used as a screen, but as an integral part of the animation itself.

Stones appear to shift forward, parts of the façade move and deform, and the whole structure feels alive.

These kinds of details make the difference between “a projection” and a truly convincing visual experience.

Playful, accessible, and full of energy

Because the project was aimed at a broad audience, including many children, a light and playful style was chosen.

Think of:

  • Bright colors

  • Smooth animations

  • Recognizable shapes

  • An energetic pace

Not heavy or abstract visuals, but something that immediately connects.

The power of character: the octopus

One of the most striking elements within Liquido is the octopus.

With its tentacles, it appears to literally crawl out of the building. By cleverly using depth, shadow, and movement, a strong 3D effect is created.

These kinds of moments create a sense of wonder. Especially for younger visitors, where the line between projection and reality briefly seems to disappear.

Theme and technique reinforce each other

The water and Neptune theme is not only reflected in the visuals, but also in the movement and flow of the animation.

Everything feels fluid:

  • Transitions are organic

  • Elements move like water

  • The entire composition remains in constant motion

This creates a consistent experience that feels natural and cohesive.

Werff Design & projection mapping

With Liquido, Werff Design shows how technology and creativity come together.

From accurately recreating a façade to developing playful, audience-focused content, everything contributes to an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Want to truly bring a building to life, down to the smallest details?

Projection mapping offers possibilities that go beyond just visuals.
