Projection Mapping at Schloss Dyck: how a simple projection creates a complete Christmas atmosphere
At Schloss Dyck, projection mapping transforms a historic façade into a warm, immersive Christmas experience.
Not a large-scale show with complex storytelling, but rather a deliberately simple approach. And that is exactly where the strength of this project lies.
A background installation that enhances everything
The client’s request was clear: create a visual addition that supports the Christmas market without demanding all the attention.
Visitors walked past stalls, lighting, and winter decorations, while in the background the castle subtly came to life with moving visuals. Not an overwhelming show, but a constant layer of experience.
This type of projection mapping is often underestimated. Precisely because it stays in the background, it largely defines the overall atmosphere of an event.
Simplicity as a strength in projection mapping
Projection mapping is often associated with complex animations and technical showcases, but this project demonstrates that this is not always necessary.
By making smart use of:
Calm animations
Appropriate colors
Rhythm and timing
Content that fits the environment
A convincing visual experience is still created.
The combination of architecture, light, and movement ensures that even a relatively simple projection is quickly perceived as “magical.”
Why this works at events
At events such as a Christmas market, everything revolves around atmosphere. Projection mapping can play a key role in this, without needing to be the main attraction.
In fact, it often works best as a background element.
It:
Enhances the environment
Subtly draws attention
Makes photo and video moments more appealing
Elevates the overall visitor experience
All without requiring extreme logistical or technical complexity.
Smart use of content makes the difference
The real value lies not only in the technology, but in the choices made in content and application.
In this project, a conscious decision was made to use visuals that:
Align with the Christmas theme
Are not too busy
Remain clearly visible from a distance
Continue to work effectively over longer periods
This ensures the projection does not quickly become repetitive and continues to contribute to the atmosphere.
Projection mapping as an accessible solution
This project at Schloss Dyck shows that projection mapping does not have to be large or complex to make an impact.
Even with a relatively simple setup, you can:
Transform a location
Enhance an event
Leave a lasting impression
As long as the execution is right.
Werff Design & projection mapping
At Werff Design, we look beyond just the technology. It is about finding the right balance between content, form, and context.
Whether it is a large-scale show or a subtle background projection like at this Christmas event, the strength lies in the complete picture.
