Installation - Object Projection

During Cultuurnacht in Breda, Werff Design, in collaboration with Afterlight and Staynice, created the installation SHALL.
A project where physical form and projection mapping come together as one cohesive whole.
An object that already works on its own
The foundation of SHALL is a physical art piece, built from hexagons with varying depths.
Even without projection, it is already an interesting composition:
Layered
Geometric
Visually strong
This physical structure forms the foundation for everything that follows.
From hexagon to cube
With the help of projection mapping, the shape of the object is visually transformed.
The hexagons appear to turn into cubes.
By making smart use of:
Light and shadow
Perspective
Timing
A convincing 3D illusion is created.
Playing with light in three dimensions
What makes this project unique is how light is used.
It appears as if:
The cubes are rotating
They are lit from different angles
Depth is constantly shifting
While the physical object itself remains static.
This tension between what you see and what is actually happening makes the effect powerful.
Physical and digital enhance each other
The strength of SHALL lies in the combination of two worlds.
The physical object provides:
Structure
Shadow
Tangibility
The projection adds:
Movement
Illusion
Dynamics
Together, they create an experience that cannot be achieved with either one alone.
A compact installation with big impact
Although it is not a large-scale façade projection, SHALL feels like a complete experience.
The combination of form, light, and movement draws attention and keeps it.
It shows that impact is not defined by scale, but by execution.
Werff Design & spatial projections
With SHALL, Werff Design demonstrates how interesting projection mapping becomes when you move beyond flat surfaces.
By working with physical forms, an extra layer of depth and experience is created.
Looking for an installation that plays with perception and space?
The combination of physical design and projection mapping opens up entirely new possibilities.
