During Festungsleuchten, Werff Design created an interactive floor installation in Koblenz.

Not a traditional projection to watch, but an experience visitors can literally walk through.

Artifacts that respond to your movement

The floor displays a collection of Roman artifacts, spread across the surface.

As soon as visitors walk over them, something special happens:

  • The objects move away from your feet

  • They appear to be pulled apart

  • They respond instantly to your position

The effect feels almost like water, as if you are walking through a constantly moving layer.

From watching to participating

Where many projections are passive, this project is all about interaction.

Visitors automatically become part of the installation. Without any explanation, they immediately understand what is happening and start to experiment:

  • What happens if I walk faster?

  • What if I stand still?

  • Can I create shapes or control something?

This sense of play creates strong engagement.

An intuitive experience

The strength of this interactive floor lies in its simplicity.

There is no need for explanation. The behavior of the visuals is logical and recognizable. Everyone understands it instantly, from children to adults.

This makes it:

  • Accessible

  • Inviting

  • Engaging enough to explore for longer

A digital layer over historical context

The choice of Roman artifacts connects to the historical context of the location. But instead of a static presentation, these elements are made dynamic and playful.

This creates a bridge between past and interaction.

Not a museum setup, but a living experience.

Interaction as an atmosphere builder

Beyond the playful aspect, this installation also contributes to the overall atmosphere of the event.

Movement, light, and responsiveness ensure that the space is constantly changing. Each visitor leaves their own trace, making the installation different every time.

Werff Design & interactive projections

With this installation in Koblenz, Werff Design shows that projection can go beyond just visuals.

By adding interaction, an experience is created that:

  • Feels personal

  • Invites exploration

  • Actively engages people

Want visitors to do more than just watch, but truly participate?

Interactive projections open up a completely new layer of experience.
