Installation - Hologram Projection

With RGB, Werff Design, in collaboration with Afterlight, created an installation where light itself became the subject.

Based on the three primary colors red, green, and blue, this project shows how white light is constructed and how it can be visually deconstructed.

White light as a starting point

At its core, white light is a combination of red, green, and blue.

Instead of combining these colors, RGB reverses the principle: it shows what happens when you pull them apart.

Three projectors, one image

For this installation, three projectors were used.

Each projector displayed exactly the same content, with one difference:

  • Projector 1: red

  • Projector 2: green

  • Projector 3: blue

On the first projection layer, these aligned perfectly, forming a single, unified image.

The moment light falls apart

Behind this first layer, the real effect appears.

Because the projectors are physically positioned slightly apart, the image subtly shifts on the surfaces behind it.

As a result, you can literally see:

  • How white light breaks apart

  • How the three colors become visible individually

  • How small shifts create a strong visual effect

Interaction through presence

What makes this installation even stronger is the role of the visitor.

As soon as someone walks through the projection, something interesting happens:

  • You block one or more color channels

  • Your shadow is composed of color

  • New shades appear naturally

For example:

  • Yellow (red + green)

  • Purple (red + blue)

  • Cyan (green + blue)

The installation does not actively respond, yet it feels interactive because your presence changes the image.

Minimal concept, rich experience

RGB proves that a strong idea matters more than complexity.

With:

  • Three projectors

  • Transparent layers

  • A well-considered setup

An installation is created that:

  • Visually intrigues

  • Invites experimentation

  • Continues to surprise

Light as a material

In this project, light is not just a tool, but the material itself.

By making it visible, splitting it, and manipulating it, the installation becomes both technically and visually compelling.

Werff Design & conceptual installations

With RGB, Werff Design shows how a clear concept can grow into a powerful experience.

By aligning technology and idea, the result is an installation that:

  • Feels elegant

  • Is easy to understand

  • Continues to fascinate

Looking for an installation that is not only visually strong, but also makes a concept tangible?

Sometimes, the power lies in revealing the fundamentals.
