During the light art festival at Slot Zeist, Werff Design created the interactive projection Flow.
An entire façade was transformed into a dynamic sea of flowers, where visitors could directly influence what was happening.
A façade that responds to movement
The foundation of Flow is a large, fluid field of flowers that is constantly in motion.
As soon as visitors take action, the visuals change:
Flowers move aside
Shapes shift
The composition adapts instantly
It feels as if you are literally moving through the flowers, even though you are standing at a distance.
Interaction that is instantly clear
What sets this project apart is how clearly the interaction is designed.
Instead of letting visitors figure out where to stand, two physical frames were placed, shaped like picture frames.
The moment you step inside one, it becomes clear: this is where something happens.
This results in:
Immediate recognition of the interaction
Less hesitation from visitors
More active participation
Playing within a frame
The frames do more than just indicate where to stand. They also guide the interaction.
Visitors are given a clear space to play:
Step into the frame
Move
See instant results
This makes the experience accessible and inviting for all ages.
From watching to influencing
As with other interactive installations, the role of the visitor shifts.
You are no longer just a spectator, but part of the artwork.
With simple movements, you can:
Push flowers aside
Disrupt patterns
Continuously alter the visuals
Each interaction makes the projection unique.
A successful balance of technology and design
Flow shows that technology alone is not enough.
The strength lies in the combination of:
Visual calm (the sea of flowers)
Clear interaction (the frames)
Immediate feedback
This makes the experience intuitive and keeps it engaging.
Werff Design & interactive experience
With Flow at Slot Zeist, Werff Design demonstrates the importance of making interaction understandable.
It is not just about creating something that responds, but ensuring people understand how they can influence it.
Looking for an interactive installation that immediately invites people to participate?
The right balance between technology and design makes all the difference.
